Apple Keyboard Function Keys work on Windows (Apple Wireless Keyboard Helper)

apple keyboardIn my continuous seek for the best keyboard for my programming and writing endeavours I’ve become addicted to the Apple keyboards family: sleek design, well-separated keys and bucket-loads of aluminium. Perfect, but with one, BIG issue: I’ve never been able to use those practical function keys (backlight and volume control, process manager, etc.) on Windows.

Telling the truth, I found and tried a solution that used AutoHotKey but it required AHK to be installed and configured and, sometimes, it didn’t work at all.

Said that, let’s focus on the news: thanking its programmers, a new tool come to save the day!

Apple Wireless Keyboard Helper, a tool that finally makes the Apple keyboards work properly — both the wired and wireless versions –. At last I print-screen, control the volume, quick-start the task manager, etc.

The little program — ~150KB — sits comfortably in the system tray and does not require to be installed. If you want it to start on system’s load, just add its shortcut under the “Startup” Folder — Start -> All Programs -> Startup.

Worth a try, Mac-ficionados!
